Street food company London Laksa serve laksa noodle soup from their market stalls at various locations, and in 2016 undertook a residency at Punk Kitchen, a craft ale speciality bar in Islington, London. Kiwi & Pom were tasked to create a new brand identity and stand design for their stalls at popular food markets across London.
Kiwi & Pom created a branding package for London Laksa, which included new logo, signage and bespoke graphic pattern. A new logo series incorporated a laksa bowl with bold typeface, and new brand colour. The London Laksa brand identity was applied across all brand assets, including menus, staff uniform and take-away equipment.
Due to the nature of the food market locations, a requirement for the stand design was for the structure to be easily erected and broken down again after a day’s trading. Kiwi & Pom created a design solution that used a modular aluminium framework, built using pieces that slotted together and could be easily assembled and disassembled. The L-shape panelled surround uses polycarbonate panels and a chalkboard menu, lightweight materials that can also be erected and transported easily.
London Laksa signage is fixed to the stand canopy in the form of a branded roundel, hand-painted using enamel paint. To set the stand apart Kiwi & Pom created a bespoke graphic pattern, inspired by the laksa noodles and using the brand core colours, and applied this to the stand back-drop. The pattern was further developed so that it could also be applied to graphics and labelling, such as sauce jars and chop-stick sleeves.
The custom-made stand design adhered to a tight budget and short timeframe, allowing London Laksa to begin trading from the new stand in autumn 2016.
